Bones

18x24, Charcoal, 2019

When I decided that I wanted to pursue Medical Illustration in college, my parents both embraced the idea and made sure that I had all of the resources they could provide me with. My mom has a friend who is a nurse, and she had multiple model skeletons that she was not using and let me borrow one. Although it is a model skeleton and not real bones, the different textures in each bone structure in the Thoracic area intrigued me. The irregular shapes that make up the Pelvis and Vertebrae are also visually engaging, which is why I focused on them specifically in this piece. Also, I focused on the rib cage in this observational drawing because of the precision and accuracy it takes to illustrate them properly.
